St Albans Mayor’s garden party raises over £1,000 for charity

Publication date:

Guests tucked into cream scones at St Albans Mayor’s ‘English Country Garden Afternoon Tea’ party while raising funds for local charity Youth Talk on Sunday 29 April.

The 120 guests were also treated to entertainment, sandwiches and home-made cake in the beautiful gardens of St Michael’s Manor Hotel in Fishpool Street, St Albans.

Bollywood and Morris dancing kept the adults entertained, while face painting was laid on for children in the hotel’s five-acre grounds that back onto a lake. There was also singing from event compere and Radio Verulam presenter Mark Bilsby.

The event raised £1,244 for the Mayor’s charity Youth Talk. The charity provides a confidential counselling and support service for young people with social, emotional and educational needs.

The Mayor of the City and District of St Albans, Councillor Mohammad Iqbal Zia, said:

Everyone had great fun at the garden party, watching the entertainment and feasting on a fantastic cream tea in beautiful surroundings. I want to thank the guests for braving the cold weather to come along on Sunday and the generous people who donated prizes for the tombola. Youth Talk is a charity close to my heart that provides a much-needed counselling and support service for young people.

Youth Talk’s Chief Executive, Trevor Fromant, said:

The Mayor has given our charity a great deal of support during his year of office, helping to raise thousands of pounds through events like this tea party. The funds will make a real difference to our small charity.”
