Tenants survey aims to improve housing service

Publication date:

A major survey of St Albans City and District Council tenants is to be undertaken in a bid to further improve housing services.

Around 3,500 tenants are being sent a questionnaire so they can give their views on issues such as repairs and maintenance.

They will also be asked, among other topics, about the quality of their home, their neighbourhood and how the Council deals with antisocial behaviour.

Results from the Tenants Satisfaction Survey will then be studied to gauge the Council’s performance and see if there are any areas that need addressing.

Tenants who complete the survey will be entered into a prize draw with a chance to win shopping vouchers of up to £100.

Those selected for the survey will receive a letter over the next few weeks and have until 10 November to reply.

They can do so online or fill in the paper questionnaire and return it by freepost in the envelope provided. It should take only 20 minutes to complete.

The survey is being carried out by independent market research company M•E•L Research.

M•E•L will randomly select the tenants, coordinate the survey work, analyse the data, and producing a report of the findings.

The survey is confidential and no information that can identify an individual respondent will be passed onto the Council.

Councillor Brian Ellis, the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: “We want to give our tenants the best possible service and find these surveys which we carry out every two years to be very helpful.

“It is an entirely confidential survey, so tenants can feel free tell us how they believe we are performing and if there are any improvements we can make.

“So, if you receive a questionnaire, please use it to tell us your views about our housing services. It will provide us with very valuable information.”

The prize draw which respondents are automatically enrolled for unless they opt out will be for eight Love2Shop vouchers: £100x1, £50x2 and £10x5. These can be used in 20,000 stores, restaurants and attractions.

M•E•L will carry out the survey in accordance with the Market Research Society Code of Conduct.

Information from the survey will be published early next year.
