Visitor Information Centre changes

Publication date:

Arrangements have been made to deal with a temporary week-long closure of the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) in St Albans.

The centre, which is currently based in the Alban Arena, will be shut from Monday 14 August to Sunday 20 August while refurbishment work is carried out.

However, people seeking information about the District’s attractions will still be catered for.

Signs will be put up directing people to a Visitor Information Point in the foyer of the Civic Centre, only a short walk away from the Arena.

This facility will be in operation during the closure and will have City trail maps and mini- guides on display.

It will not have a dedicated staff, but the Civic Centre reception team have been briefed to help with any inquiries.

Visitors can also find a wealth of information about the District on the website, www.enjoystalbans.com.

This contains What’s On and Things To Do guides as well as maps and travel advice. It also has also lists of attractions, places to stay and eating and drinking venues.

Visitor information about the District will also be available at Verulamium Museum and the Cathedral.

The VIC was moved out of its former home in the Town Hall, St Peter’s Street, last year as building work started to create a £7.75 million museum and art gallery.

It will return to the Town Hall in a new format sometime after that work is completed in late spring next year.

Councillor Annie Brewster, Portfolio Holder for Sport and Culture for St Albans City and District Council, said: “August is a quiet month for major events at the Arena and it was felt on balance that this was the best time to schedule the essential maintenance work.

“The fact that we are providing an information point at a City Centre site right next door to the Arena means there should not be too much disruption to the service and we also have an action-packed visitor website that people can use, too.”
