Wanted – an Independent Person for the Council’s Audit and Governance Committee
An Independent Person is wanted to serve on the Audit and Governance Committee of St Albans City and District Council.
The Committee’s task is to ensure high standards of financial and risk management as well as governance.
It already has an Independent Chair, but now the Council is seeking another Independent Person to join it.
This follows a recommendation from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy that such local authority committees should have two Independent Persons working alongside Councillors.
The Council is now recruiting to the role which has an allowance of £800-a-year plus expenses.
Applicants are required to be impartial and independent-minded with experience of audit, finance, governance or risk management.
Councillor Giles Fry, Lead Councillor for Resources, said:
Full Council accepted at its July meeting the recommendation to appoint a second Independent Member to the Committee and we are now implementing this.
The Committee has the important role of examining in depth the financial and governance activities of the Council.
Having a second Independent Member on the Committee with no connections to the Council will mean that the tasks of the Committee will be carried out rigorously and provides the opportunity to have a second independent perspective.
Applications can be made until 5pm Monday 22 September 2025.
