We want to hear your views on crime prevention in St Albans District
Residents, businesses and community groups are being given the opportunity to help shape a detailed plan for improving crime prevention in St Albans District.
A public consultation is being held on how to make the area a safer place to live and work with residents urged to give their views.
They are asked to fill in a questionnaire on issues such as antisocial behaviour, drug dealing, burglary, domestic abuse and the protection of vulnerable people.
The consultation, which runs from now until Tuesday 1 March, will help the St Albans Community Safety Partnership (CSP) complete its strategy for 2022/23.

The CSP is an umbrella group of public agencies that work together to reduce crime in the District.
Members include St Albans City and District Council (SADC), Hertfordshire Constabulary, the Police and Crime Commissioner and Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The mission statement this year is a commitment “to maintaining and delivering safer and stronger communities, making the District an area where people want to live, work and visit.”
The three proposed priorities for the coming year are:
- Protecting communities and making them feel safe.
- Tackling crime and antisocial behaviour.
- Championing mental health and wellbeing.
Councillor Jacqui Taylor, Chair of SADC’s Housing and Inclusion Committee, said:
Our District is generally a law-abiding place with low crime levels, but that is not to say we are without any problems.
We want to hear from our residents along with people who work in the area about any concerns they have about how crime is being tackled, how they might feel safer and where there might be room for improvement.
One thing we will be looking at is the impact that COVID-19 has had on our community including its effect on people’s mental health and wellbeing
All we ask is for people to help us develop our strategy. By completing the questionnaire, they can shape our community safety plans for the District for the year ahead.
St Albans District Chief Inspector Mike Todd said:
We work closely with our CSP partners to deal with crime and antisocial behaviour and we welcome the views of our local residents.
We have specialist police teams working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including our safer neighbourhood teams who are out and about in their communities, responding to concerns. We also work with mental health professionals to safeguard those at risk of harm.
But with your help, what we really want to do is prevent crime and anti-social behaviour from happening in the first place to make our communities even safer across the St Albans District.
