Roadside Verges, Grass Cutting, Shrubs, Hedges and Trees
St Albans City & District Council manage Highways verge vegetation on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council.
This includes:
- Grass verges
- Shrub beds and hedges
- Roadside weed control
- Safety related work on highway trees
Fly tipping on the highway is managed by the Waste Management team in partnership with Veolia
Grass Verge Cutting Toggle accordion
Roadside grass cutting on highway verges is carried out between March and October each year. The cut for the whole District takes approximately 15 working days to complete which means the verges will be cut one to two times a month during the growing season depending on the growing conditions.
This equates to approximately 9 cuts per season

Highway Tree Maintenance Toggle accordion
St Albans City & District Council carry out safety related work on trees in urban areas that are located on adopted highway on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
Roadside Weed Control Toggle accordion
The St Albans City & District Council manages weed control across the District on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council.
St Albans City & District Council will not be treating weeds from designated high-speed routes (such as the A414).
The work will be carried out by the Council’s ground maintenance contractor John O’Conner GM Ltd.
