Jobs and careers FAQs

What job vacancies do you have at the moment? Toggle accordion

Please search our current vacancies

If you are looking for our current vacancies they are all in this one place. You can also register for vacancy alerts – you’ll then get an email to let you know when a job is advertised that matches your search criteria.

Can I send you my CV to be considered for any suitable vacancies?  Toggle accordion

We don’t accept CVs for any of our jobs and are unable to keep a list of people looking for particular roles.

Please register for vacancy alerts on the current vacancies page – you’ll then get an email to let you know when a job is advertised that matches your search criteria.

Can I attach my CV instead of the online application form?  Toggle accordion

You will need to fill in our online application form – select the 'Apply' button on the vacancy to get to it.  You will have the option to attach your CV if you feel that there is useful supplementary information that is not captured in your application or supporting statement.

CV only applications will be clearly highlighted.

See how to apply for more information.

Can I have a paper copy of the application form to complete? Toggle accordion

All applications for council vacancies should be completed online through our recruitment tracking system. Select the ‘Apply’ button on the specific vacancy to get to it.

If you have issues completing the application form online, please contact us on  01727819251 or recruitment@stalbans.gov.uk.

I haven’t got the right qualifications for the job – what should I do? Toggle accordion

If you don’t have the right ‘essential’ qualifications, skills, experience and behaviours for the role, we are unlikely to progress your application further.

But, if you don’t meet all the ‘desirable’ requirements, you may still be invited to the next stage of the selection.

Where we have a too many candidates who meet the essential requirements, we then look at the desirable criteria to decide.

If you want to speak to someone to check your suitability please call the named manager on the job advert.

How do I know you have received my application? Toggle accordion

You will automatically receive an email once you have submitted your application online, to let you know it is now with us.

When will I hear whether my application was successful? Toggle accordion

Recruiting managers are expected to complete the shortlisting as soon as possible after the closing date, usually within three weeks. If you haven’t heard from us within 4 weeks please consider your application as unsuccessful.

Please allow at least three weeks after the closing date before contacting the HR team for an update.

If you have a question that is not answered here, please contact us.
