Sustainable Transport
Road transport is one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions generated within the District. As well as affecting our climate, road transport is also the main source of air pollution in the St Albans District. We know air pollution contributes to health impacts and it is in all our interests to find more sustainable means of transport so we can have cleaner air.
50% of all journeys taken in Hertfordshire are less than two miles and many more could be undertaken by sustainable modes. You can find more information on this page about how you can travel more sustainably.
St Albans City and District Council are not the Highways Authority so we don't have powers in relation to roads, transport or public transport. We have provided information below on what we are doing to support and encourage sustainable modes of transport in the District, as well as what we are doing to transition to a low emissions fleet in our own services.
