Additional green waste subscription
We now offer residents an additional green waste subscription service allowing each household to have up to three extra green bins or bags.
There is NO change to the existing service, this remains free. This is an additional opt in service. If you have one garden waste bin and do not need any additional bins, you do not need to take any action, we will continue to empty your existing bin.
How does the service work?
Collections are fortnightly, throughout the whole year, at the same time as your existing garden waste bin. You can put the same items into your garden waste bin as your existing one
Don’t want to pay for this service?
You can always take any extra garden waste to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.
How much does is cost?
The service costs £50 a year for each 240-litre green wheeled bin (the same size as a standard recycling bin) or, for conservation areas, two reusable bags. This equates to 96p per week. The £50 needs to be paid when you sign up and covers the annual period 1st April to 31st March.

Do I own the bin? Toggle accordion

I have steps leading up to my property, can I still receive a bin? Toggle accordion
You will only be able to receive an additional bin if you already have an existing garden waste bin. Our crews are unable to do collections if they have to take bins up and down steps due to Health & Safety regulations.

You can, but the subscription sticker will have a space for you to write your address on it.

No refunds will be provided for cancellations during the year.
What do I do if I realise I need extra, or less capacity, once my service has started? Toggle accordion
You will be able to do this via your MyStAlbans account. You will need to pay for any additional bins. However, we cannot give refunds on bins that are no longer wanted - unless it is within the 14 days cooling off period.
Can I share my bin with my neighbour? Toggle accordion
Yes, you can share with your neighbour. However, the container(s) can only be allocated to one address.
Can I take my bin with me if I move within the district? Toggle accordion
Yes, but you will need to let us know first so we can update our contractor’s system and send you new stickers for your new address.
Where should I present my additional garden waste bin(s) for collection? Toggle accordion
Next to your existing garden waste bin, as close to the edge of your property as is safely practical, i.e. the nearest point to the collection vehicle. However, you must not leave bins or sacks on the public highway. They must remain within your property boundary outside of collection days.
