REFIT is a physical activity programme for residents 50+. The programme uses local facilities such as church halls, leisure and community centres and aims to take activity out into the St Albans community. The programme is currently being delivered in Park Street, Sopwell, Harpenden and London Colney, with new sessions coming soon.

The St Albans Exercise Referral Scheme is a discounted gym membership for anyone having trouble with any one of several medical conditions. We aim to work with you to generate an exercise plan tailored to your wants and needs, as well as offering regular monitored gym sessions in the week, to give you the extra support you need. We operate out of Harpenden Sports Centre, Batchwood Golf & Sports Centre, Cotlandswick Leisure Centre and Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre and allow you to access the gym, swimming pool and exercise classes at these facilities.

Disability sport and wellbeing
St Albans City and District Council actively develops, supports and promotes activities that enable everyone in the community to access quality sports, leisure and well being activities. The St Albans Sport and Health Development Team have implemented a number of activity programmes accessible to both children and adults who have a learning and/or physical disability. These projects have been developed to provide a wide range of opportunities in a fun and supportive environment.

The Daylight Club is a social club for adults with physical disabilities living in the St Albans District, which includes Harpenden.
The Club welcomes new members and meet every Wednesday from 10am to 4pm at St Johns Church Hall, St John’s Rd, Harpenden and Friday from 11am to 3pm at Christchurch, High Oaks, St Albans. The Club provides a safe and supportive environment where members meet for social contact and community involvement. Members can take part in a wide range of creative or recreational activities, interactive workshops, useful or interesting topics covered by guest speakers, community events and day trips in our own minibus. The Daylight Club can also offer door to door transport.

Passport to Leisure is a local project which supports adults with learning disabilities to access and integrate with the community through a variety of leisure and sporting activities.
The main emphasis of the project is for the members to have fun with friends in a supportive environment, where independence is encouraged and promoted.
A programme of events is produced and sent out every 3 months with a wide variety of trips and activities to suit people's different interests, abilities and needs.
Most of the trips are run on a Sunday and include some of the following;
- Wildlife Parks
- Stately homes
- Parks or Gardens
- Bowling
- Cinema
- Pub Lunches
- Community events and shows
- London attractions
- Snooker
- Gym sessions and much more!

Special Olympics St Albans (SOSA) provides sporting opportunities for those aged 8 years and over with a learning disability. They use sport as a vehicle to empower their members to enhance their health and wellbeing, develop as individuals, establish friendships and feel equal and valued
The project provides year-round weekly sport sessions for athletes aged 8yrs+, in a wide range of sports including Athletics, Swimming, Equestrian and Boccia. SOSA also work with a number of partners to provide additional satellite sessions, such as Rugby, Judo, Golf, Football and Trampolining. In addition to the sessions, members are also able to compete at local, regional or national competitions or get involved in volunteering and coaching opportunities.

Healthy Tots is a 4 week healthy living scheme for tots and their families. Healthy Tots is delivered and designed by St Albans Sport and Health Development Team in partnership with St Albans District Children's Centres.
The scheme is split into 2 parts; theory for the adults on topics such as health breakfast options with fun activities and active play for the tots.
Active play introduces and encourages the tots to be active, introduces them to ball skills and gets them moving!
Currently Healthy Tots is being delivered at London Colney Children's Centre, St Albans Children's Centre and Lamer fields Children Centre.

Play in the Parks is an Easter and summer holiday play scheme for children aged between 3 and 12 years old. Our team of play leaders co-ordinate fun and active sessions in 15 parks across the St Albans District. Children can turn up and join in free of charge.

LEAN - Learning, Exercise and Nutrition is a 6 week course on healthy living and exercise aimed at 12-17 year olds, created and delivered by St Albans Sports and Health Team.
The aim of this new scheme is to introduce 12-17 year olds to different types of physical activity and to raise awareness of healthy living in a fun and positive way. Each week we cover a health topic such as healthy eating, body image and dealing with stress.
We also introduce a 45 minute activity session each week. Yoga, dancing, games and fun fitness classes have all been introduced.
We hold courses around St Albans and Harpenden.
The sessions are FREE if charge.

Active Schools is the delivery of alternative sessions within secondary schools. Four week alcohol education and five week introduction to mental health courses run within PSHE lessons. Physical activity is also delivered, either as part of their PE lessons or as lunchtime and after school clubs, varying from popdance to badminton. Many of the activities are delivered by instructors from local clubs and pupils are signposted out to these clubs as a way to continue their participation. These sessions are adapted to be inclusive for all year groups from 7 to 11 and are offered to several secondary schools in the St Albans City and District area.

A Junior Weight Management programme for 7 to 11 year olds. This is a 6 week course with two follow up sessions at week 12 and week 18. Support from the project lead is continued throughout the course and thereafter. Each week is themed and begins with 30 – 45 minute discussions and active learning around topics such as healthy cooking and benefits of exercise. This is then followed by 45 minutes of physical activity. Both adults and children from the home are encouraged to attend the sessions so this valuable information is taken back and shared with the family.

The Leisure Card (now named either the 1Life or Everyone Active Card) is available to everyone living in St Albans City and District.
The cards are free and entitle residents to a discount of 10% off the cost of sporting and fitness activities at leisure facilities provided by the Council.
An Everyone Active Leisure Card entitles you to discounts at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre.
With a 1Life Card residents will also qualify for discounts on standby tickets at the Alban Arena and Harpenden Public Halls. The 1Life Leisure card can be used in any of the following facilities:

How do I apply?
Fill in the application form on the leaflet and hand it in at any of the above facilities with proof of identity. You will be issues with your card. your photo will also be taken to ensure that cards are used only by the cardholder. Active St Albans is the former Community Sport Network for the city and district of St Albans. We are financially supported by the St Albans City and District Council and are lead by the 1Life St Albans Sport and Health Team. We work with our partners to continue to ensure that more local people can become more active, more often.
- We assist local residents by providing information on local sport and activity facilities, clubs and sessions, enabling them to get involved in the local sporting communities.
- We support local clubs and coaches, assisting with promotion of their sessions or events, organising CPD courses and providing information on funding opportunities to help them deliver the best service to their participants.
- We deliver a range of projects to help target key areas within the district to increase activity levels, decrease isolation and improve well-being.
