Ukraine Support

Councillor Chris White, Leader of St Albans City and District Council said:

"We abhor Russia’s attack on Ukraine and will do all we can to support the Ukrainian people. We are working on this together with partner organisations including Hertfordshire County Council and the Refugee Council. Many of our residents have already registered with the Homes for Ukraine scheme and we expect others will do so in the weeks ahead. Our housing team are assisting them with the resettling of the refugees.”

The Hertfordshire Strategic Migration Steering Group has considered how local councils can best direct people who wish to support Ukraine migrants.

Financial donations to organisations that have a presence in our area are very welcome. It would be helpful if people do not donate goods.  This is because collecting supplies can be a complex and time consuming.  Transporting those goods hundreds of miles is also very costly and slow in comparison to the more immediate impact that financial donations can have on those in need.

DLUHC 'Home for Ukraine' scheme

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has provided some information about the launch of their ‘Homes for Ukraine’ initiative.  

UK individuals, charities, community groups and businesses can record their interest in supporting Ukrainians fleeing the war by registering on the Homes for Ukraine website.
